Community Inclusion Program

An important part of growing up is the opportunity to develop positive relationships with our peers, something that is often difficult for children with developmental disabilities. The Arc’s Community Inclusion Program promotes the appropriate involvement of elementary school children with disabilities in after-school, summer camp and other out-of-school time programs across Palm Beach County. This is made possible by providing specialized instruction and support to staff members who work with these students in order to ensure that their presence in these programs is positive and effective for them and their peers.

In-house, targeted trainings focus on the specific needs of the individual student and staff member, and are scheduled with the provider based on need. Group sessions, which offer more general information, are offered monthly (except for July) with additional sessions added as necessary. The ultimate goal of this education is to help workers to fully and appropriately include children with special needs in their programs.

The Community Inclusion Program is funded by Prime Time Palm Beach County Inc.
