Volunteers

Volunteers are an invaluable part of the operation of The Arc of Palm Beach County. Our volunteers assist us with our fundraising events, program activities and more. A wide variety of volunteer opportunities are available, so you are sure to find something that fits your interests and your schedule. If you have a volunteer project in mind that you don’t see here, we’ll be happy to work with you to try to make that happen.

*All Arc volunteers must be at least 18 years of age and are responsible for their own transportation.

Volunteer opportunities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Administration Volunteer

Thrive on organization? Refuse to stop searching internet sites until you find exactly what you’re looking for? You can put your skills to use by providing valuable administrative assistance to Arc program directors. Opportunities will vary depending upon need, and may include photocopying or filing, data entry or even grant-related research.

A Level II Background Screening is required for this volunteer opportunity.

Client Support Volunteer

Are you the type of person who enjoys the satisfaction that comes with working with someone one-on-one in order to help that person create something, participate in an activity or develop a skill that will lead to a better life? If so, this may be the perfect volunteer opportunity for you.

Several of The Arc’s programs provide opportunities for direct client interaction. Participation needs vary by program, but some options include facilitating a weekly book club for adults, assisting at camps or at Friday evening recreation activities, spending time with group home residents during a variety of activities, working with clients on art projects or assisting with skills training. For those who are interested in spending time with clients but are unable to commit to a regular schedule, assistance is always welcome at art shows or green markets when clients are in attendance to sell their artistic creations. Individuals with specialized skills (hairdressers, yoga/exercise instructors, massage therapists, etc.) who are interesting in donating their time and talents are some of the most popular visitors at our group homes.

A Level II Background Screening is required for these volunteer opportunities.

Group Volunteer Projects

Does your civic or fraternal group want to do something meaningful for people in need? Are you and your friends interested in giving back to the community? If this sounds like you, a group volunteer project at The Arc may be just the right thing.

There are so many different types of group volunteer opportunities, the list is virtually endless, but ideas include preparing a dinner for residents of one (or more) of The Arc’s group homes, assembling pantry bags for agency families or heavy duty cleaning of The Arc’s group home(s) or Courim Center. If your group has a project in mind, we would love to hear about it!

Special Events Volunteer

Want to get involved but can’t commit to a regular schedule? Enjoy being a part of fun and unique activities? Then this is the volunteer opportunity for you.

The Arc holds a number of special events throughout the year, ranging from gift wrapping to golf outings to galas. Depending on the event, these may take place in an evening or during the day, on a weekday or on a weekend. Something is sure to fit your lifestyle.

Please check the upcoming events calendar for dates and times.

Volunteer Shopper

Do you believe in The Arc’s mission and want to help, but really don’t have the time? It’s easy – you can make a big difference by doing something that you already do.

The Arc’s group homes use many of the same household products that we all do, and frequently need them replenished. You can support The Arc the next time you go shopping by picking up one or two of these items and dropping them off at the agency’s Courim Center in Riviera Beach.

The agency appreciates donations of cleaning supplies (mops and buckets, sponges, paper towels, window cleaners) and household goods and toiletries (toothpaste and toothbrushes, toilet tissue, kitchen towels, dishwashing and laundry detergent, plastic sandwich, storage and trash bags. Gift cards to Target, Walmart, Publix, Lowes and Home Depot so that agency staff can purchase these items are also appreciated.

Donations of gift cards and other items that can be used for fundraising auctions and raffle prizes at these events are also welcome at any time.
